What is endodontics or root canal therapy?
Endodontics is the specialty dealing with teeth root issues. Root canals remove infections, relieve pain and swelling and can save the tooth.
When is a root canal needed?
A root canal is the only option when the tooth pulp, also called the root, is infected by bacteria. A root canal drains the infection to prevent tooth decay and loss.
Does the procedure hurt?
No, root canals aren’t like they once were. At Charisma Dental, we numb the area so you don’t feel pain. You will feel pressure but not a lot of discomfort.
How long does a root canal take?
It depends on how complex the case is but most can be done in an hour.
What happens after the root canal procedure?
You will get a customized crown installed after treatment. The crown protects the tooth and strengthens it to allow for normal chewing function. We may put a temporary crown on initially until the permanent one is made.
What if the tooth can’t be saved?
Sometimes, a tooth is too damaged to be saved. Our dentist may recommend removing it rather than performing a root canal.
Is there follow-up care after an endodontic treatment?
Yes, we at Charisma Dental will make a follow-up appointment to ensure healing and that the tooth remains healthy.
