IV Sedation Therapy

Learning about IV Sedation Therapy

Sedation therapy can put an anxious patient at ease and allow the dentist or surgeon to do a procedure without any problems. IV sedation therapy is one of the stronger methods that should be considered in longer procedures.

When to Consider IV Sedation Therapy

IV sedation therapy should be considered when oral surgery is expected to be lengthy or more complicated.

It should also be considered if the patient is particularly anxious and needs heavy sedation.

The Effects

IV sedation therapy is put directly into your body with an IV stream so it will make you groggy quickly. The patient will be in a twilight sleep, although they could dose off throughout the procedure. They will need a ride home.

No Side Effects

IV sedation therapy doesn't leave any side effects afterward. The patient may still be groggy for a couple of hours so it's best they rest for the remainder of the day. However, they can go back to school or work the next day.
