Providing Excellent
Care in Gum Surgery

Gum surgery is a procedure used for serious gum infections or gum disease. Our
caring staff at Charisma Dental is well aware of all the concerns patients have
about gum surgery and can address all of them.

More Than One Type
of Gum Surgery

Four types of gum surgery are available but the type you get depends on your needs. The most common is gingival flap surgery or pocket reduction.

It’s when the periodontist cleans out pockets of bacteria between gums and teeth and reattaches
the gum tissue to the teeth.

Other Gum Surgeries

Another type of gum surgery is when the surgeon installs bone grafts or
membranes to stimulate bone and tissue growth. Crown lengthening to reduce
gum tissue and adding more gums with a soft tissue graft are other types of
gum surgeries.

Reduce Pain

Patients state they have mild to moderate pain with these types of surgeries. Most of the pain can be reduced with over-the-counter pain relievers. Periodontists typically prescribe antibiotics before and after surgery to reduce the chances of infection.
