Metal Braces

WHAT TO KNOW
ABOUT METAL BRACES

While there are many orthodontic options available, metal braces are still the most popular orthodontic treatment. They are reliable, effective, and more affordable than many other options.

Best Time for Metal Braces

Anyone of any age can get traditional metal braces but the group that uses them the most are pre-teens, ages 9 to 12. This is a great age to get braces both for orthodontic and social reasons.

Kids this age have just gotten all their permanent teeth so they are more      flexible. Socially, other kids have metal braces so they aren’t left feeling alone          or different.

How Metal Braces Work

Metal braces have stainless steel wires, brackets, and bands. They are adjusted by an orthodontist on regular office visits to shift the position of your teeth over time. Brackets are bonded to each tooth and an archwire is attached. Elastic bands secure the wire. Sometimes, the bands break.

Metal Braces Mean Changes

Those wearing metal braces must change their eating habits during treatment to avoid damaging the braces.

Things like popcorn and sticky candy are avoided.

You will need to visit the orthodontist every four to eight weeks for a check-up and adjustment.
